A resident of Washington, DC, Reid Walker has worked as a communications executive for more than 20 years. In this role, Mr. Walker serves as the communications director for US Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington State. In his free time, Reid Walker enjoys mountain climbing.
If you are ready to begin mountain climbing, keep the following tips in mind to prepare for your outing.
1. Raising your general fitness level is helpful. Focus on the things that will help you the most in the mountains: legs, lungs, and core. You will need strength in your legs and core to climb. Improving your endurance and stamina will help with your breathing at higher altitudes.
2. Spend some time in a rock-climbing gym or outside on hiking trails working with the equipment you’ll be using on the mountain.
3. Before you go, investigate your planned trail. Check out the inclines and see how high your trail goes. This will help prepare you for the course on your climb day.
